Why practice yoga for bone health?
Bones naturally weaken as we age. It's going to happen to all of us, women and men. Keep your bones strong now - it is much easier to maintain what you've got rather than rebuild. Many of us suffer back problems as a result of slouching. You can avoid this by learning to activate your core and deep postural muscles and strengthening spinal muscles. Improve your posture and mitigate the risk of bone fracture. Who can benefit from safe yoga for bones? 80% of the adult population! Absolutely everyone who works at a desk or is hunched over most of the day can benefit from yoga that supports bone health. |
What are some examples of how you modify for healthy bones?
Not all classes are safe for people with osteopenia or osteoporosis. For example, avoid flexion. Flexion is the shape we make when we hunch over laptops and desks all day. We avoid this shape as we practice. Instead, we focus on elongating the spine and strengthening, especially core, glutes, back and deep postural muscles. |
I've got low bone density and I want to maintain a healthy lifestyle. What do I do?
The best time to start is right now. Keep moving. We will work together to preserve bone strength. We'll focus on movements to modify, movements to avoid and build a practice for you that supports strength, bones and balance. And this won't be clinical or too daunting - I focus on creating a yoga experience that inspires community and feels joyful to each participant. |
